Our great friend, the Irish musician David James, suffered a heart attack in November of 2006. It has left him with an enormous debt. The Friends of David James are holding a benefit for him on Sunday, September 9th at Gaelic Park. This will be a great way to thank David for all the tremendous work he has done for the Irish-American community.
David has been teaching and performing at the forefront of Irish music and culture for many years. He has won the All-Ireland on the Hammered Dulcimer three times and is considered by many to be the premier Irish Hammered Dulcimer player in the world. He has conducted numerous classes and seminars around the world and has been invited to most of the major festivals as a performer as well as an historian. David is a fantastic guy, a committed teacher and a great friend, and has been a unsung hero on the front lines of Irish music for many, many years. It's time for us to support David, a local treasure. Please help us spread the word about this event and please come!!
Thank You,
the Friends of David James

Irish Music Camp @ Musical Offering
10 to 3
**New IRISH MUSIC CAMP**
in Evanston from July 23 to 27, from 9 to 2 each day.
Ages: 9-17
Instructors: Jesse Langen, Sean Cleland and special guest teachers (tba)
This camp is for intermediate to advanced kids who want to have some fun working closely together for a week. We will work on improving tune playing, putting together arrangements, and by the end of the week we'll have an entertaining bunch of sets for a concert on the Friday night.
We are working on possibly having some special guests appear to give workshops.
The camp will be held at the Musical Offering
www.themusicaloffering.org
The Musical offering is a really cool building in Evanston with lots of space which will allow us to break apart into small groups and work on many aspects of learning and playing exciting Irish music. During the week we'll break apart into many small ensembles as well as plenty of one on one ensemble work with both Jesse and myself as well as some special guest teachers. We're going to learn a bunch of new tunes this week.
On some of the days we may be able to accommodate private lessons for those of you that are interested after the regular days activities are finished at 2. The culmination of this week will be a Friday evening concert.
