Beginning Tin Whistle

Haven't you always wanted to learn how to play Irish music? Connect in a deeper way with your Irish Heritage? Let the Irish Music School of Chicago get you started now!

The tin whistle (aka penny whistle) is the easiest and most economical way to get right to the heart of traditional Irish music. Whether you want to dive right into the vibrant Chicago Irish session scene or just impress your friends with your version of "Danny Boy," this is the perfect place to start! Go home with a tune after your first class, or even stay for the music session @ Chief O'Neill's directly after and play the tune with everybody!

Beginning Bodhrán

Do you love Irish Traditional Music and want to get started playing it? The bodhrán is the rhythmic, goat-skinned drum at the heart of Irish traditional music, and it's easy to learn and great fun to play in sessions and at home. You'll learn how to hold the drum and the tipper, and how to really play the core Irish rhythms of jigs and reels.

Tuesdays, 5-6pm @ Chief O'Neill's (12 weeks - $276)

Wednesdays, 6-7pm @ Irish American Heritage Center (12 weeks - $276)

Beginning Concertina

Tuesdays, 9-10pm @ Chief O'Neill's (12 weeks - $276)

Beginning Irish Fiddle

Wednesdays, 7:30-8:30pm @ Irish American Heritage Center (12 weeks - $276)

It's never too late to start learning the fiddle! In these classes we will begin with the basics and progress at your speed. You'll be playing a simple tune by the end of the first night. Come explore this beautiful instrument! Contact us to see which class would be best suited for you.

Continuing Irish Fiddle

Tuesdays between 7-8pm @ Chief O'Neill's (12 weeks - $276)

Slower Mixed Instrument Tunes & Techniques

Tuesdays, 6-7pm @ Chief O'Neill's (12 weeks - $276)

Are you enjoying playing Irish music, but intimidated by full-tilt sessions? This is the class for you! A little experience, but not much, is required. Open to all melody instruments. We'll work on picking up tunes by ear and playing them in an Irish style.

Intermediate Mixed Instrument Tunes & Techniques

Tuesdays, 7-8pm @ Chief O'Neill's (12 weeks - $276)

In this class we work on much more than just "learning tunes". Broaden your session-friendly repertoire, and delve deeper into the technique, history, and regional styles of Irish music. Practicing at home is important, but see how much fun learning in a group can be! Plan to stay for the exciting music session afterwards to try out your new tunes!
